Country laneway plowing · Orangeville & area
Your laneway,
looked after all winter.
I plow long country laneways around Orangeville, automatically once 5 cm has fallen. Owner-operated, fifteen winters on these roads, a small route by design, and prices that stay fixed all season.
How long is your laneway?
How it works
You shouldn't have to think about your laneway once winter starts. Here is how I make sure you don't.
We walk your laneway
Before the season we agree where the snow goes, mark anything hidden and set stakes along the edges. It takes about 15 minutes.
I plow at 5 cm
No calls. Overnight snow is usually cleared before the morning commute, and in a long storm I come back when it stops. Signed-up customers come first; one-time call-ins are normally plowed after the route, unless I happen to be right next door.
One invoice a month
Pay by e-Transfer or by card. Or choose the Season Plan: one fixed price for the whole winter, paid half at signing and half on January 15.
Every laneway includes
- A walkthrough with you before the season, with marker stakes along your edges
- Plowing once 5 cm has fallen, and again after the storm if it keeps coming
- Snow pushed where we agree, never onto the road or a neighbour's side
- A free return trip if the township plow blocks your entrance within 12 hours of my visit
- A route status page that shows when I'm out, when I'm done and if anything has held me up
- Prices fixed for the whole season, with no fuel surcharges
- Every plow logged with the date and time, yours to see whenever you ask
What I don't do
I plow. On residential laneways I don't salt, sand or treat ice, and as a rule I try not to take on shovelling walkways, steps or decks: staying in the truck is what keeps the route quick for everyone. If you're a senior, or there's a particular reason you need a walk cleared, ask me and we'll work it out. If a slope or walkway ices up, a pail of grit by the door does the job.

Why by length
A long laneway takes more passes and more time than a short one, and a turnaround or a steep grade adds more again. Pricing by length means you can work out your own price from the road before you ever call me, and nobody pays for anybody else's laneway.
Why it stays fixed
Fuel will move around this winter. I build a few dollars for that into the rate so the price you agree in October is the price you pay in March. No fuel surcharges, no storm surcharges, no surprises on the invoice.
Snow watch
I check the forecast every evening through the season, so you don't have to. Below is the seven-day outlook for the area, and here is Environment Canada's forecast for Orangeville.

Where I plow
Country laneways within about 20 minutes of Orangeville. Driving between laneways is unpaid time, so I keep the route tight; that's what lets me reach everyone the same morning.
Am I on your route?
Who plows your laneway
The person you talk to is the person who shows up.
James, owner-operator
I'm James. I've plowed around Orangeville for fifteen winters, and I do every laneway on this route myself. I keep the route small on purpose, so each laneway is done properly and I can get back to open your entrance when the township plow fills it.
Do I need to call when it snows?
No. Once about 5 cm has fallen I'm on my way to every laneway on the route. The route status page shows when I'm out and when the route is done.
What if it snows all day?
I plow once about 5 cm has built up and again when it stops, so you can always get in and out. If it's coming down fast, please be patient: I'm working my way around the route, and every plow company is stretched in the same storm. On the per-plow plan each pass counts as one plow; the Season Plan covers them all, however many it takes.
Do you salt or sand?
No. On residential laneways I only plow. If you have a slope or a walkway that ices up, keep a pail of grit or sand by the door. Keeping to one thing is what lets me keep the route small and get to everyone the same morning: trips back to the salt yard to reload would slow the whole route.
Will the plow damage my lawn or gravel?
We set marker stakes along the edges at the walkthrough, and on gravel I run the blade a little high until the base freezes. Some gravel on the lawn edge, scuffed turf and a few ruts when the ground isn't frozen are normal for a country laneway, not damage.
What if the township plow blocks my entrance?
If it happens within 12 hours of my visit, text me and I'll come back and open it at no charge, once per storm.
Can I cancel?
In the first ten days after signing, yes, for any reason. After that it depends on the plan. Per plow: either of us can end it with 14 days' notice by text or email, and you only pay for plows already done. The Season Plan is one price for the whole winter, so it runs the whole winter. There's no plow limit: I don't charge more in a heavy winter, and the payments don't stop in a light one. But life happens. If something changes for you, like selling the property or a hard stretch, talk to me. I'm not going to hold anyone to something unreasonable, and we'll work out what's fair. If I end it early, I refund the unused part of what you've paid.
What if your truck breaks down?
I carry spares for the usual plow failures and keep the truck ready from mid-November. If something bigger stops me, I post it on the route status page and may send a qualified back-up operator. Per plow, you only pay for plows done. And if a breakdown leaves you stuck, tell me: I'll be fair and reasonable about putting it right.
